Our Theological Approach to Faith and Family

At the heart of our work is Jesus’ call to child-like faith—characterized by wonder, trust, and dependence on God. We believe this calling is beautifully reciprocal: as adults guide children, those experiences deepen their own faith in Christ. Our approach integrates child development research, identity formation, and best parenting practices with theological conviction.

Our Connection to Northwest University

The NWCFF is housed at Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington—a Christian university founded in 1934 and affiliated with the Assemblies of God. Northwest University’s mission of “spiritual vitality, academic excellence, and empowered engagement with human need” perfectly supports our work.

The university provides theological depth, research expertise, and direct connections to church leaders and families. Northwest University’s oversight ensures financial accountability, academic rigor, and institutional sustainability—making the NWCFF a trusted resource for parents, caregivers, and churches everywhere.

Our Connection to the Lilly Endowment

The NWCFF is funded by Lilly Endowment Inc. through their Christian Parenting and Caregiving Program, which supports parents and caregivers in passing on their faith to children.

Research shows parents are the most significant faith influencers in children’s lives—more than peers, media, or church programming. Through Lilly Endowment’s support, we’ve assembled an interdisciplinary team, conducted original research, and created resources that serve families and churches across the United States.
